Here are a few quotes and tid-bits from Craig...

Craig Stanton, pre-Sonoma quotes

(about the momentum and down time since Sebring) “I believe that there is a huge momentum carried over from Sebring. I have seen a lot of the different Petersen crew guys out doing their own race programs, either driving or crewing. They are all out gaining knowledge and out independently getting very, very sharp. Nobody is sitting around home doing nothing. Everyone is out improving their craft so they can return to Petersen Motorsports at the top of their game. So I am very eager to get to Sonoma. I’m preparing night and day for this race.”

(about racing at Infineon Raceway) “This is one of my favorite tracks in America; here and Sebring. The fans are really, really special and are very supportive and they come out in huge numbers. There are a lot of endurance road racing fans that come out for this event. They [Infineon Raceway] have really upgraded the seating and there are a lot of exciting places to watch the race now from a better comfort level which adds to the overall appeal for the weekend for the fans.”

(about the importance of this track to him as a native Californian) “This is a west coast track that has years and years of history. All of the world’s greatest endurance drivers and stock car drivers have raced on this track. Championships have been won and lost here. It has changed in spots and but not in others. It still has the old racetrack flavor and many of the challenges that have been here for years and years. I am just so excited about being here with Petersen Motorsports because I think we have a great chance of doing real, real well.”

Sonoma Memory… “I won a championship because I won a race here, on the amateur level. We qualified with a track record and took the fastest lap of the race and those points allowed me to win the championship. I also won my first pro race at Sonoma. We won it in a Nissan factory effort owned by my friend Mark Webber against Petey Cunningham. It was a battle against the Mazdas and the Acuras that went on the whole race. It was a real close race so it was a special race for me to win. This track has a lot of fond memories for me.”
